Yummm...Chocolate covered strawberries

There is truly nothing more decadent than a bowl of those exquisite chocolate covered strawberries. They are wonderfully fresh and delightful on the inside and sweet and luscious on the inside. Chocolate covered strawberries are symbolic for sensuality, especially when they are long-stemmed just for dipping, and fed to us by another who is equally enamored with the experience.

They are fun to eat and easy to make, and can be messy if you like them that way! You can eat chocolate covered strawberries with warm melted chocolate or let them set in the refrigerator to harden the outer candy coating. There are many possibilities and you don’t even have to make them yourself if you don’t want to.

One Dozen Sugar-Free Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

You can always tell when spring has officially arrived. The signs are not always apparent in the weather but the signs are apparent in the produce section of your grocery store. Strawberries are abundant in the spring. Many grocery stores offer them at really reasonable prices during this season.

The abundant number of the red berries may have some of us excited about the season, but not so excited about eating nothing but strawberries for weeks on end. The buy-one-get-one-free offers are simply too great to pass up, but they go bad way too soon. You may find yourself swimming in "never to be eaten" berries if you’re not careful. What to do with all of the berries? Why, make chocolate covered strawberries, of course.

There are many online specialty stores who offer gourmet chocolate covered strawberries for a variety of special occasions. These companies use the best chocolate of the highest quality, and are truly a gift that everyone will enjoy. Of course, you can always just buy them for yourself too!  Gift boxes can be personalized for Valentines Day, weddings, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Christmas, as well as other holidays and special occasions.

Chocolate covered strawberries can be plain or ornately decorated by skilled artists. Whatever the occasion, they are perfect! If you do choose to buy from an online retailer, expect to pay quite a bit more than you would pay if you just went to the supermarket and bought your own chocolate and strawberries. The more decorated the chocolate covered strawberries, the higher the cost, as well as coordinating packaging and shipping to preserve freshness.

Very dangerous: One Dozen Delectable Chocolate Covered Strawberries

I recently saw an advertisement for chocolate covered strawberries from a local chocolate factory. I was really shocked at the price demanded by the reputable store. I decided to do a little price comparison and discovered that the average cost of chocolate covered strawberries is: expensive. This inspired me to do a little money-saving research.

The expense of the treat makes it more appealing to me for some reason. This is not to imply that I want to run out and buy chocolate covered strawberries. It means that I want to find a way to make them myself. I figured that I could put the produce sales to some good use.

If you choose to make your own, which can also be quite fun, there are many recipes online for you to try that use simple ingredients that you probably have stocked in your kitchen pantry. There are great pictures of the finished product to inspire you, which will leave you salivating until you just can’t take it anymore!

These online recipes are creative and are also fitting for a variety of occasions, and can be a great project for the kids to enjoy as well as you and your honey! If you are preparing them for a social gathering, others will marvel at your culinary creation, and you can take all the credit! Julia Child look out!!

One online recipe for chocolate covered strawberries can be found here and another version on how to make chocolate covered strawberries is below:

I thought that I would have to get expensive cocoa blocks made just for melting and dipping. However, it turns out that the best way to melt the chocolate is to use old-fashioned chips that can be purchased right in your local grocery store. This is great news for me because I hate to run around, although I’d be willing to for reasonably-priced chocolate covered strawberries.

The next piece of good news I came across is that I could use my microwave in the process. Making chocolate covered strawberries is actually pretty easy, in theory. However, it is important to follow the instructions carefully as to not scorch the chocolate.

So the chocolate covered strawberry recipe I came up with is: simply melt the chips in a microwave-safe bowl. It is important to use the defrost setting. Cooking the dip for your chocolate covered strawberries on high will scorch it. Wait until the dip is smooth. This usually takes two to three minutes on average.

There is a specific technique for dipping chocolate covered strawberries. This technique is quite simple. Just dip the berries into the mixture and shake the excess off as you withdraw it. Finally, give the chocolate covered strawberries a few swirls in a clockwise direction and set it on wax paper. The last step: enjoy!

Chocolate covered strawberries are perfect for any occasion, and can be enjoyed by one, by two, or by many. They can be made at home, or you can order online from a number of specialty stores that offer the best in gourmet chocolate covered strawberries. Whatever you decide, you won’t be disappointed!
